  • Day 1 -  Athens to Olympia via Nafplion
    We will pick you up from select spots in Athens (departure at approx 8:45) and start heading south via the coastal road which leads to the Corinth Canal, an artificial channel that separates Peloponnese from Central Greece. After a short stop for pictures we will hit the road once more to reach the Theater of Epidaurus, one of the most recognizable theaters the world over. Epidaurus is famous for its exceptional acoustics, which reportedly allowed almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified words to 14,000 around spectators. On the way to our next destination we will pass through the town of Nafplion where we will take another short stop for a glimpse of what is for many the most romantic town in all of Greece! back on the road once more and we will find ourselves in Mycenae, where the remains of a once great civilization stand today. On the archaeological site we will find important monuments such as Tomb of Agamemnon, the Lion Gate and the Cyclopean Walls among many others. We will then drive west through the scenic routes of Central Peloponnese and the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis to reach Olympia, where we will stop for some well-earned rest.

  • Day 2 - Olympia to Delphi
    After a fulfilling breakfast you are sure to be ready for another day of exploration! Being in Olympia, it will come as no surprise that our next site to explore is the modern town's ancient counterpart. In Ancient Olympia, we will visit the Stadium, Hippodrome and Palaestra, all of which housed different events of the original Olympic Games. The complex also includes Treasuries of different city-states and the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus. After we have toured the site, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, which features an impressive selection of terracottas, bronzes and sculptures. Afterwards, we will take a drive through the plains of Ilia and Achaia, cross the impressive Rio-Antirio bridge, which connects the two sides of the Corinthian Bay and find ourselves in the region of Central Greece. Passing by the picturesque town of Nafpaktos we will arrive in Delphi. You will have the evening at your disposal to explore the quaint town on your own pace.

  • Day 3 - Delphi to Kalambaka
    Delphi was a site of great importance for the ancient Greek world. The archaeological site's crowning jewel is of course the Temple of Apollo, in the center of which the famous Oracle of Delphi stands. The Pythian priestesses were among the most powerful women of the Hellenic world and they were consulted by Kings from the 7th century BCE and until the late 4th century BCE. The significance of the Oracle is evident by the number of treasuries found on the site -with the Athenians' and Sifnians' being two of the surviving ones- as well as by the apt nickname Delphi received, being dubbed 'the navel of the world'. Once we leave the site, we will proceed to the Delphi Archaeological Museum, which is home to thousands of exhibits from antiquity, the most important of which is arguably the bronze statue of the Charioteer, dedicated to the victory of Polyzalus of Gela in the Pythian Games. Afterwards, we will depart for Kalambaka, a quaint town in Thessaly, resting at the foot of Meteora.

  • Day 4 - Visit Meteora and Return to Athens
    A place that is sure to be etched in your memory, Meteora encapsulates the meaning of the word numinous. There are two sides to Meteora. On the one hand it is a geological marvel as huge rock pillars rise up from the valley below to create a surreal picture the is simultaneously both rugged and serene. On the other, you can sense spirituality in the air, as on top of these pillars, almost suspended in the air, stand Byzantine Monasteries, of immeasurable architectural beauty and religious importance. Needless to say that the juxtaposition of these two worlds gives way to a spectacle unlike anything you've seen before. We will visit two monasteries and catch a glimpse of the ascetic life their occupants experience before departing for Athens. The route we'll take will lead us via the towns of Trikala and Lamia, past Thermopylae, the site of the famous battle against Xerxes' Persians, where a short stop to see Leonidas' Monument across the road is in order. We'll reach Athens early in the evening (approx. 19:00).

  • Day 1 -  Athens to Nafplion via the Corinth Canal
    We will pick you up from select spots in Athens (departure at approx 8:45) and take the south coastal road to Peloponnese. As we depart from the Athenian peninsula we'll cross the Corinth Canal, where we will make a short stop for pictures. Dubbed as the 'Greek Suez', this artificial channel which had been a dream since the 7th century BCE, was constructed in 1890. We'll continue through the plains of Peloponnese to reach the Theater of Epidaurus, a monument to the performance arts and a structure famous for its remarkable acoustics. Once we've visited the Theater and the Sanctuary of Asklepios we will proceed to the town of Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece, where we will stop for the night.

  • Day 2 - Nafplion to Olympia via Mycenae
    Take advantage of your free morning to explore Nafplion, stroll down its alleys and explore its many craft shops to pick up some mementos for your friends back home. Make sure you stop by Syntagma Square for some gelato and have a beverage in the town's waterfront which has a great view of the fortress of Bourtzi. Around noon, we will depart for Mycenae where we will visit the archaeological site and the nearby museum. In the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae, you can find the remains of a once great civilization, with the Cyclopean Walls, Tomb of Agamemnon and Lions' Gate being among the most significant sites. Then it's off to Olympia, through the scenic routes of Central Peloponnese and through the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis.

  • Day 3 - Olympia to Delphi
    One simply cannot visit the area without going to see the Archaeological Site of Ancient Olympia! In the morning, we will pay a visit to the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium and the Archaeological Museum. This is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, an event so significant that all conflicts in Ancient Greece ceased for the duration of the competition. Afterwards, we will take a drive through the plains of Ilia and Achaia and the magnificent bridge of Rio-Antirio which connects the two sides of the Corinthian Bay, to cross back over to Central Greece. We will pass by the picturesque towns of Nafpaktos and Itea, to arrive in Delphi, our own sanctuary for the night.

  • Day 4 - Delphi to Kalambaka
    Delphi is of course known the world over for its Oracle, whose ambiguous prophecies guided Ancient Greek Kings in times of war and peace. In the morning, we will visit the archaeological site where the Oracle once stood and see the remains of the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Pythian Games Stadium and the Delphi Ancient Theater. Close to the site we will find the Archaeological Museum, home to numerous exhibits of the the Classical Period, the most famous of which is undoubtedly the bronze statue of the Charioteer. After our visit to the museum, we will head north and reach Kalambaka, a quaint town of Central Greece resting on the foot of Meteora.

  • Day 5 - Visit Meteora and Return to Athens
    In the morning we will visit Meteora, an awe-inspiring marriage between the wondrous powers of Nature and the perseverance of the human spirit. In the serene valley of Meteora, gigantic rock pillars rise up to create a unique spectacle. As if the imposing plateaus weren't enough to impress any visitor, on top of them stand ageless Byzantine Monasteries, whose construction during the Middle Ages can inspire a sense of humility to everyone. These monasteries bear immeasurable religious as well as historical importance, as they were used by monks as a refuge against invasions from the Ottomans. We will visit two of the monasteries, where we can get a glimpse of the ascetic life the residents live today. Afterwards we will make our way back to Athens via Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae -where a short stop to see Leonidas' Monument across the road is in order. Early in the evening (approx. 19:00) we will have returned to Athens from this fulfilling multi-day adventure!

  • Day 1 -  Athens to Kalambaka via Thebes, Levadia and Delphi
    We will pick you up from select spots in Athens (departure at approx 8:45) and drive through the scenic plains of Beotia, passing by the town of Thebes, which was an important city-state in the Hellenic world, as well as the picturesque village of Arachova. Not long after we'll arrive in Delphi, known the world over for the Oracle which the ancient Greeks used to consult before starting a war campaign. We will visit the archaeological site, which houses the Temple of Apollo, the ancient Theater, the Stadium which hosted the Pythian Games and many different Treasuries from various city-states among many other sites. Afterwards, we will depart for Kalambaka, a cozy town in the heart of Greece, situated right at the foot of the astonishing rock complex of Meteora.

  • Day 2 - Kalambaka to Thessaloniki and a visit to Meteora
    After a fulfilling breakfast, we will head for Meteora, a place of immense religious importance which encapsulates the very meaning of the word numinous.Meteora is a geological marvel since vast, rock pillars rise up from the valley below to create a unique spectacle that is a testament to wonders of nature. On top of the pillars, stand Byzantine Monasteries, build over many decades during the Middle Age, and against adverse conditions. We will visit at least two monasteries and take in the stunning scenery before we bid adieu to Thessaly and proceed through the valley of Tempi to Macedonia, passing in view of the iconic figure of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and home of the 12 Gods of Greek Mythology. We will arrive at Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, where you will have free time to explore the city's nightlife at your own pace.

  • Day 3 - Explore Thessaloniki's Byzantine Heritage
    Thessaloniki is a city of immense historical importance, serving as one of the most prominent cities of the Byzantine Empire, second only to Constantinople. We will take a walking tour to explore its rich history through a series of monument that highlight the city through various eras. The spirit of Byzantium is ever-present in the architectural style of the many churches decorating Thessaloniki and the Museum of Byzantine Culture can serve as a jumping off point for you to familiarize yourself with it. A visit to the Arch of Galerius and Rotunda will elucidate early Byzantine art and it will immediately become clear why it was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Once you've had your fill of history, you can soak in the modern aspects of the city at your leisure. Make sure to sample as many treats as you can, as the culinary tradition of Northern Greece differs significantly from the rest of the country!

  • Day 4 - Explore Macedonia
    Time to explore the historical grounds of Macedonia through a series of excursions! We'll start heading west, through beautiful and diverse landscape until we reach the town of Edessa. Picturesque and quaint, Edessa has been a beloved vacation destination for locals due to its waterfalls, which augment its natural beauty. We will then we proceed to the town of Naoussa to visit the School of Aristotle. The Lyceum -as it is better known as- was famous for its Peripatetic school which was established in 334 BCE by the great philosopher Aristotle, and it is a place in which Socrates and Plato taught. Continuing south on the same route we will reach Vergina, or Aigai as it was known during antiquity. There we will visit the museum created in the Great Tumulus, covering the Royal Tombs of Macedonia. This is the house of the astonishing findings in the tomb of King Phillip II, Alexander's father, one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. Close by we'll find the town of Veria, our fourth and final stop for the day. Known as Beroea in biblical times, it is the place where the Apostle Paul taught and it is there that we will find Saint Paul's Bema. Afterwards we'll stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and the town's colorful market area. The return to Thessaloniki will be filled with musings about the multitude of diverse destinations your day entailed.

  • Day 5 - Visit Pella and Return to Athens
    A morning trip to Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great's empire is the perfect segue to concluding your trip and saying goodbye to Northern Greece. We will admire the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C. villas, in situ as well as in the Archaeological Museum of Pella. On our way back we will stop at the Archaeological Park of Dion on the foot of Mount Olympus. A religious center for Macedonians during antiquity, Dion eventually developed into an ancient Greek city of its own. Continuing our drive back to Athens, through the plains of Thessaly, we will pass by Thermopylae, where you will have the chance to see the Leonidas' monument, before arriving in the capital late in the afternoon.

  • Day 1 -  Athens to Olympia via Corinth, Epidaurus, Nafplion and Mycenae
    Early in the morning, we will pick you up from select spots around Athens and take the coastal road to the Corinth Canal, where we will make a short stop for pictures. The 'Suez of Greece' as it has been dubbed, is an artificial canal signifying our entering of Peloponnese, a fertile region in Greece known for its wine production among other things. Back on the road and onto the Theater of Epidaurus, a monument to the dramatic arts and a structure famous for its remarkable acoustics. Near the site we can also see the Sanctuary of Asclepius, God of Medicine in antiquity. Afterwards, we will proceed to the town of Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece, and undoubtedly one of the most charming spots in the country. Its iconic waterfront, which combines Venetian and Hellenic elements warrants a visit during our short stop there. No time to lose as we head for the nearby Mycenae, the Bronze Age citadel that was an important city-state in ancient Greece. We will enter the archaeological site and pay a visit to the of King Agamemnon and the Lions' Gate. A culture-filled day will conclude once we reach Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games, via Central Peloponnese and the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis. It is worth noting that to this day, the lighting of the Olympic flame takes place on the site every four years to formally start the Olympic Games.

  • Day 2 - Olympia to Delphi
    We will start our day with a visit to the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia, which contains the sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium and Archaeological Museum. Afterwards, we will drive on through the plains of Iliad and Achaia, through the magnificent modern bridge of Rio-Antirio which connects the two sides of the Corinthian Bay. Leaving Peloponnese behind, we will enter Central Greece and make our way through the picturesque towns of Nafpaktos and Itea  to reach Delphi, our final destination for the day.

  • Day 3 - Delphi to Kalambaka
    In Delphi, or the 'navel of the world' as ancient Greeks used to call it, we will pay a visit to the archaeological site. The Temple of Apollo where the Oracle would consult Greek generals before military campaigns is of course the centerpiece of the complex, but the Treasuries of the the various city-states (Athens, Thebes, Sifnos et.al), the Stadium that housed the Pythian Games and the Ancient Theater overlooking the valley of Boetia are just some of the many points of interest you can explore. After we depart from the site we will enter the nearby Archaeological Museum, which house a multitude of exhibits connected to the rich history of Delphi, with the Status of the Bronze Charioteer being the most prominent one. Once we have concluded our visit, we will depart for Kalambaka, a small town in the heart of Greece, situated right at the foot of the astonishing rock complex of Meteora.

  • Day 4 - Kalambaka to Thessaloniki and a visit to Meteora
    Having spent all night watching the imposing Meteora from your hotel, the moment has come! A true sense of the numinous will overcome you as a geological marvel of vast, rock pillars has risen up from the valley below to create a unique spectacle that is a testament to wonders of nature. On top of the pillars, stand Byzantine Monasteries, of immeasurable historical and religious importance. We will visit a number of them and experience the pious atmosphere of days long passed. We will once again find ourselves on the road, continuing our journey through the striking plains of Thessaly and the valley of Tempi, while admiring the gigantic figure of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and home of the 12 Gods of Greek Mythology. We will reach Thessaloniki, the second largest city on Greece and a cultural center during the Middle Ages.

  • Day 5 - Explore Thessaloniki's Byzantine Heritage
    In the morning, we will explore Thessaloniki, a hub of civilization during the Byzantine Empire, second in population and prestige only to Constantinople. The spirit of that era is ever-present in the architecture and style of the churches of the Christian world and for a deep dive in history the Museum of Byzantine Culture is a must should you find the time. The iconic waterfront which offers views of the White Tower is a greatest place to admire the view of the Thermaic Gulf while other important sites include the Roman Forum, the Ottoman Market and the Basilica of Saint Demetrius. We will take a short walking tour will guide you to the Arch of Galerius, the ruins of the Palace and the famous Rotunda leaving the remainder of the day at your leisure, with the city offering ample opportunities for entertainment.

  • Day 6 - Explore Macedonia
    We'll depart in the morning for an excursion to the historical grounds of Macedonia. Our first stop will be the picturesque Edessa, known for its waterfalls, which have brought the town fame all over Greece. We will then we proceed to Naoussa and to a site of exceptional beauty and importance, Aristotle's School, the great philosopher who taught ‘the doctrines of morals and politics' to Alexander the Great and the Macedonian youth. Our next stop will be Ancient Agai, known today as Vergina, to visit the Museum of the Royal Tombs. It is in this UNESCO World Heritage Site that you can find the astonishing artifacts found in the tomb of King Phillip II, Alexander's father, one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. Just a few miles away is Veria -Biblical Beroea- where you can visit Saint Paul's Bema, stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and visit the town's colorful market. The return to Thessaloniki will be filled with musings about the multitude of unique destinations your day entailed.

  • Day 7 - Visit Pella and Return to Athens
    In the morning, you will visit Pella, the capital of Alexander's empire. You will admire the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C. villas, in situ as well as in the new Museum. Up next is the archaeological park of Dion, a sacred city of the Macedonians, at the foot of mountain Olympus. As we start our return to Athens, we'll head south, through Thessaly, Lamia and Thermopylae -where we will have the chance to see the Leonidas' monument- and Thebes. Late in the afternoon we will return to the Greek capital after a week steepd in Greek history!
